Submitted by WLC on 11 May, 2018

Chioma Deere presented a Technology CLE to the F. Malcolm Cunningham, Sr. Bar Association on April 20, which included attorneys, paralegals, and the judiciary at the Palm Beach County Courthouse Law Library. Chioma presented on eDiscovery principles affecting litigation and pre-litigation disputes, new trends in use of data in small and medium-sized litigation, as well as the effective and ethical use of technology in law.

Chioma discussed how the depositories of data collected by outside companies for free are huge repositories for ESI discovery in litigation, and how essential technology is for law professionals.

“Today, people from all walks of life have smartphones that are connected to the internet,” Chioma said. “Knowledge of how to navigate technology and ESI in small and medium litigation and other dispute proceedings is essential to the lawyer who must secure important ESI (eg. data on a smartphone and on Facebook) and use technology to competently represent their client.”

Chioma received her Graduate Certification in E-Discovery Project Management and routinely presents on the ethics and practical methods of conducting e-discovery in litigation. She is currently listed as an e-Discovery Special Master for the 15th Judicial Circuit, Palm Beach County. Chioma is also Secretary of the Florida Bar Business Law Section Committee for Electronic Discovery and Digital Evidence. She is actively co-presents Continuing Judicial Education (CJE) sessions to judges on Judicial Management of Electronic Discovery.
